Misconduct investigationStep 1
Question 1
What kind of incident are you checking?
Law 12 cautions a player for eight things: delaying the restart of play, dissent by word or action, entering, re-entering or deliberately leaving the field of play without permission, failing to respect the required distance at a restart, persistent offences, unsporting behaviour, entering the referee review area, and excessively using the review signal. It sends a player off for nine: the three ways of denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, serious foul play, biting or spitting, violent conduct, offensive, insulting or abusive language or actions, a second caution in the same match, and entering the video operation room. Only some of those start with a challenge for the ball.
